One 60-day journey through the Australian Coast was terminated following the death of an elderly woman who was left behind by the ship on a remote island.

The passenger had been walking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but broke off from the party for a break. The liner sailed away leaving her and came back several hours later after the ship staff discovered the passenger was unaccounted for.

A major hunt discovered her body the next day.

Officials are examining the incident, in coordination with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Head of the voyage organizer said that passengers and crew on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the journey had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and earlier mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he added that guests would be given a full refund, and said the company was working "to arrange the travel back of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also released an updated communication, and said they had "provided a order to the Master" prohibiting any further travelers from entering the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the liner in the port city upon its arrival.

The ship initially left the Australian port on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the point of the 80-year-old's passing. Lizard Island was the first stop on the journey.

The offspring of the victim said that her relatives was "stunned and grieved that the liner left the location after an planned excursion without my mother".

Via her announcement, she characterized her mother as an "energetic elderly person" who was a affiliate of a walking club.
